ABSTRACT
The review of the literature aimed on assessing the occupational and medical diagnostic radiation exposure impact on human health. Main Russian and international publications in open access international databases as PubMed, Scopus, RSCI, and relevant sources are considered. The current state of the problem is assessed, radiation sources and doses are characterized, and the key approaches to assessing the long-term effects of occupational and medical diagnostic radiation exposure are described. Comparative results of assessing the radiogenic risk of occupational radiation from various sources are presented, noting the significant contribution of Mayak PA cohort study. Particular attention is given to publications containing the results of studies assessing the risk of medical diagnostic exposure due to computed tomography, which currently makes the largest contribution to the cumulative diagnostic radiation dose burden of patients. The need for a comprehensive study of the long-term consequences of exposure to diagnostic and occupational radiation among personnel of nuclear industrial complex enterprises is demonstrated.
Keywords: occupational exposure, diagnostic exposure, radiation risk, computed tomography, low doses
