ABSTRACT
Purpose: The purpose of the study was to to study the possibilities of applied codes for automated calculations, accounting and control of radiation doses of civil aviation flight personnel and to develop their classification in the interests of civil aviation in Russia.
Material and methods: The study included the search and systematization of information about calculators and application programs developed by domestic and foreign companies for the automated calculation of radiation doses for flight personnel and air passengers during air travel, as well as the analysis of the availability of these programs, the interfaces for entering input data (flight parameters) and displaying the results of radiation dose calculations for air travel, and the possibilities of their application in the practice of airlines.
Conclusions: The analysis made it possible to group such programs into 4 classes: the simplest, medium complexity, professional and scientific. Radiation dose calculation programs of the simplest and medium complexity can be used by passengers and flight crew members during air travel. Professional programs are used by foreign carrier airlines for the systematic assessment, accounting and control of radiation doses to flight personnel. Scientific programs are used to clarify the specifics of dose distribution in the near-Earth atmosphere, depending on the latitude and longitude of the flight, solar activity and flight parameters. Currently, there are two Internet resources in Russia: Calculation of Radiation Dose during Air Travel (Institute of Applied Geophysics named after Academician E.K. Fedorov, (©FSBI «IPG») and RUSCOSMICS ©Evgeny Maurchev, Ksenia Didenko (Polar Geophysical Institute, IZMIRAN). They are intended for dose or dose rate of ionizing radiation for heights from 1 to 20 km and for different geographical coordinates assessment.
