ABSTRACT

Purpose: To evaluate the relationship between anamnestic data collected from patients regarding past injuries and changes in bone scan supplemented by SPECT/CT.

Material and methods: The study included 256 cancer patients examined for metastatic disease. All patients underwent bone scintigraphy, supplemented by SPECT/CT of the area with abnormal tracer distribution.

Results: 24 (9,4%) patients out of 256 (100%) mentioned their injuries during the survey, of which 8 (3,1%) patients had corresponding changes in the obtained images in the form of increased accumulation and/or radiographic signs of fractures. In 65 (25,4%) patients out of 256 (100%), signs of focal increase in the accumulation of osteotropic radiopharmaceutical and radiographic signs of fractures in various bones were detected.

Conclusion: The obtained results demonstrate significant discrepancies between the information patients provide about their injuries and the results of bone scans, supplemented by SPECT/CT. This fact is important in the differential diagnosis of metastatic bone lesions.
