ABSTRACT
The paper gives a brief overview of the 72st Session of the United Nations Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation
(UNSCEAR) which took place during 16-20 June 2025. National delegations from 29 UNSCEAR Member-states as well as the representatives of nine international organizations participated in the work of the Session. Within the framework of the meetings of the working group and subgroups the following documents have been discussed: R.767 “Epidemiological studies of ionizing radiation and cancer” and R.768 “Effects of ionizing radiation on the circulatory system”. The Committee has also considered the progress made on the document R.769 “Effects of ionizing radiation on the nervous system”. The following Reports of the Secretariat have also been presented during the work of the Session: UNSCEAR/72/7 “Implementation of public information and outreach strategy for 2025–2029”. UNSCEAR/72/8 “Implementation of the Committee’s Future Programme of Work (2025–2029), including consideration of the Committee’s ad hoc working group on effects and mechanisms”, UNSCEAR/72/9 “Implementation of the Strategy to improve collection, analysis and dissemination of data on radiation exposure, including consideration of the Committee’s ad hoc working group on sources and exposure”. Report to the UN General Assembly has been prepared based on the results of the Session.
